This is the first 50th year anniversary of the Air Force stamp issued in 1957.
It is the policy of the U.S. Postal Service to commemorate historical events
only in anniversaries im multiples of 50 years. Interestingly, another Air Force 50th
Anniversary stamp was issued in 1997, which sadly was not an Air Mail issue.
The latter issue commemorates the Air Force as a seperate branch of the service.
