The Yuri A. Gagarin Issue

Image or picture the Czech Gagarin stamp of 1961

On April 12, 1961 Yuri A. Gagarin made history as the first human in space. Aboard the Soviet Vostok 1 spacecraft, Yuri's flight lasted 1 hour and 48 min. During re-entry, according to plan, Gagarin exited the Vostok 1 at an altitude of 22,000 feet, parachuting to earth below.

Czechoslovakia has a tradition of beautiful engraved postage stamps. This design is dramatic. Humanity has now been freed from the confinement of the earth, and has started to explore outer space. This stamp captures this spirit very well.
