Echo I

Image or picture the Echo I stamp of 1960

The Echo satellite was basically a large balloon which reflected radio waves. Although passive communication satellites are no longer in use, it did have the distinction in its time of being the largest satellite in orbit.

The large sphere, Echo I, dominates the stamp design engraved and printed in deep violet. A beam of radio signal is transmitted and reflected from the satellite. Interestingly, clouds in the sky seem out of place with a sherical earth.
