This small stamp represents one of the first satelite commemorative stamps.

On the label to the right of the stamp the Russian translates to: On May 15, 1958 in accordance with the program of the International Geophysical Year, the Soviet Union launched the third artificial earth satellite, weighing 1327 KG, to a height of 1880 kilometers.
