Project Skylab

The last flight of Apollo era hardware.

Image or picture the Apollo

The entire Skylab project consists of recycled Apollo hardware. The laboratory, launched with the Saturn V, and the Apollo Command and Service Modules serving to transport crews to and from the laboratory.

This stamp shows overcoming failure, as the partially open solar pannel still partially open. The umbrella of golden foil is visible as replacement sun shields after damage occured during launch of the orbiting laboratory.

The Skylab program provided the U.S. space program the first lessons on extended living in space. An excellent history of the program may be found in: Homesteading Space: The Skylab Story (Outward Odyssey: A People's History of Spaceflight) .
