Upper Volta was a Northwestern Africa nation. In 1984 it changed its name to Burkina Faso.
Above are two striking images from a set of 4 stamps issued in 1976 to commemorate the Viking landing. The first image deptects the Viking lander as it might look on Mars. The surface is probably not quite accurate, though it makes a nice picture.
The second stamp, an Air Mail issue depects the Viking spacecraft as it is being prepared for launch. This is an unusual choice for a postage stamp. It is interesting as the Viking spacecraft is surrounded by engineers and test equipment. No doubt those engineers who worked hard on this project appreciated the honor of depiction on a postage stamp!
